Dear Friends,
We come into renewal now. Spring melts the hard winter crustiness of us, thaws out our winter-be-at-
home habits and open us up to more community, be it Spring Flings or Farmer’s Markets beginning to
sell their wares. We want to emerge from our seasonal cocoon and re-enter the world.
As we make that shift, remember, sometimes during out spring cleaning, our packing away or
recessing the winter garb for the lighter spring fabrics, that the letting go of old habits and notions is
appropriate as well.
This is the year of the Saturn/Neptune opposition, (Feb.28/June 25 ’07) so we are in a dissolving
mode. Anything that we can add to the pile of ‘outworn, old, not-needed any longer’ would assist us
greatly.
My son Lanai has recently developed his website for his photography. He’s world traveled and has a
great eye. Enjoy his pictures!

Spring Prayer
Oh Great Mother, as new life is cradled in your hands, nurtured through your breath, loved within
your heart, cradle me, that I may feel that nurturing amid the challenges of daily life. Take me to your
heart and breathe your life into me, so that in the time of Spring, my own life will feel renewed.
Blinders
So as not to miss
the unexpected surprises
that might find me,
I take off my blinders
and wrap them in red cloth
with owl feathers,
and pack them away
in a box marked
‘no longer useful items’.
I wouldn’t want to miss
one small glimmer
of the scintillating light
of my own resurrection
as the pure white light
of Truth
dawns for me.

Spring 07 Astrology Column
April begins with a Full Moon on the 2nd. Empowerment tempered with compassion is the key. The
ability to bring important issues into manifested form is also part of this moon pattern. Trust issues
continue. On Easter Sunday (8th) the Sun trines Saturn and things feel stable, moving forward with
purpose. The next day, expansion is the key. On the 10th insights are sharp. The New Moon on the
17th is a new cycle of working inwardly. Work on bringing the masculine and feminine parts of
yourselves more closely aligned. April 19th brings a trine of Sun to Pluto, strength and empowerment
come easily. Use your strengths without doubt. The Sun enters Taurus on the 20th and things feel
more grounded, more practical. Earth Day (22nd) has Venus square Mars, some frustration that can
lead to practical action. On the 26th, insights pay off. Trust what you know. At month’s end, on the
28th, Mars conjuncts Uranus and it’s important to pay attention to your energy. Unconsciousness and
rash behavior brings out the accident potential.
The Full Moon on May 2nd is not an easy one. A loose Grand Cross with Sun, Moon, Saturn and
Neptune. Changes are happening and being pushed; old identities are dissolving. Who are you now?
On the 6th, use your insight to look beneath the surface and see what’s important. The 9th brings
chafing with authority. Claim your own. Sun with Neptune on the 12th and questions arise, and on
Mother’s Day (13th) Mars and Pluto are intense, so keep the peace as best you can. The New Moon
on the 16th brings a sense of newness, adventure, yet risk-taking has its price if taken too far, right
now. Even though advice might be hard to hear, it can be a big help. The Sun enters Gemini on the
21st and communications will expand over the next 30 days. May 23rd is a good day for poetry and
spiritual insights. The 24th brings Neptune’s turning inward and deepening your understanding. Also
freedom of self-expression is afoot that day. On the 30th we enter Mercury’s shadow, for it’s next
Retrograde cycle. The Blue Moon Full Moon on the 31st brings out-of-the-blue happenings. Trust
your intuition and hunches. Trust can go a long way right now. Polarities abound. See what you can
do to undo them.
June begins with Mars trine Jupiter on the 4th, a day of abundant energy to move mountains. Great
time for a project. The 9th brings unexpected freedom needs. Keep the parameters wide. The 11th is
a good day to embark on a defined goal. Sun and Neptune play well on the 13th and life feels good.
The New Moon on the 14th brings a new cycle of spiritual understanding. Deal with insecurities as the
arise. A lot of energy with Mars trine Saturn trine Pluto to inspire and get things moving. Spend time
getting to know self, not just others. Mercury goes Retrograde on the 15th in Cancer and insights into
our own nurturance ensues. The Sun oppose Pluto on the 18th challenges all of our power trips. The
21st is the Summer Solstice with Mars trine Pluto…very powerful day! Working with the shadow, the
disowned parts of ourselves, brings us great gifts. Ask into that place before bed, and see what
occurs. Relationships are tenuous, yet speaking one’s feelings is vital. Saturn and Neptune are
opposing again (Feb.’07), still working on the dissolution of old ways. The Full Moon on the 25th
gives some healing opportunities in relationships. Nurturing experiences are available. Take them in
and let them warm you. Happy Summer.

Climate change could lead to terrorism, security experts warn
Irony alert: as President Bush dwells on terrorism while barely acknowledging climate change, it turns
out that climate change may lead to terrorism. The consequences of global warming could aggravate
the already-ridiculous divide between the haves and have-nots, put 30 million people at risk of famine
and disease, and create eco-refugees with a propensity for radical action, said experts attending a
climate-change and security conference in London. "Those who are short of food, those who are short
of water, those who can't move to countries where it looks as if everything is marvelous are going to
be people who are going to adopt desperate measures to try and make their point," says former
British U.N. Ambassador Sir Crispin Tickell, whose name knows no equal. Consider: the role of
drought and scarce resources in the escalating violence in Rwanda and Darfur, and a 2002 "letter to
the American people" in which Osama bin Laden villainized the U.S. for refusing to sign the Kyoto
Protocol. Gulp. Excerpt from larger article from Grist.
Red Rain
A mysterious red rain fell in India in the Summer of 2001, containing a strange life form of
extraterrestrial origin, according to a scientist doing extensive analysis of the rain samples. He says the
samples contained bizarre, thick-walled, red-tinted cell-like structures that divide like living cells, but
lack DNA, yet still able to plentifully reproduce in water 600 deg F. He theorizes the particles came
from a meteor or comet fragment that may have exploded nearby. The explosion was heard just prior
to the red rain. (Excerpted from Earth Week by Steve Newmann.)

Baby bottles found to leak chemicals, California may ban them
A new study from green group Environment California: when run through a simulated dishwasher 50
to 75 times, name-brand baby bottles leach the chemical bisphenol A, or BPA, in levels that have
caused reproductive abnormalities in lab animals. Baby-product representatives call the report
"sensational and biased" and argue that their products meet federal standards, which really is far from
comforting. Feeling un-comforted, California Assembly member Fiona Ma (D) has introduced a bill to
ban children's products containing BPA or toxic plastic softeners called phthalates in the state,
mirroring a current San Francisco law. And a group of experts convened by the National Institutes of
Health will meet next week to review data and conclude whether or not BPA poses health risks to
humanfolk -- but the findings, according to an NIH spokesperson, will "not necessarily" be adopted
by the feds. San Francisco Chronicle, Jane Kay, 28 Feb 2007. Grist.
The End of the Interpreter
Like the dinosaur
the time of the guru
is coming to an end.
To everything there is a season
and this season is over.
The Aquarian Age tells of a golden age,
an age of wisdom and ease,
music and evolvement,
and the end of the priest/guru
as the intermediary
between human and the divine.
The end of the guru
and all who he straps
to his lineage of karma
to all he seduces
into his power
of supposed enlightenment
is at hand.
Even if this new age
brings earth changes
and a new pole star,
we will have
the ear of god ourselves,
without the interpreter
and his own agenda.

Friend...Because of You
I have learned to relax more deeply because of you
And take moments in my stride because of you
I know deep within my heart what love is because of you
And I appreciate the strength in my steps because of you.
Because you came along, I count my blessings twice
And because you came along, new depth exists in all my relationships
Because you came along, I have newfound joy in being in the present
And because you came along, the world is more alive more brilliant.
You taught me the way to really cry and really laugh
And you taught me to go with the surprises in life even when they
seem unbearable
You taught me to pay attention, to wake up and see the butterflies
And you taught me how to forgive the most long-held resentments.
You turned fear into hope
And you turned my world literally upside down
You turned over a new leaf in my life
And you turned my eyes toward the clouds.
I got back my Mother because of you
And my Father’s steadfast loyalty because of you
My brother’s deepened friendship ¦because of you
And more love than I have ever known because of you.
Because you came along, I give my all every minute of every day
And because of you, I have learned when and where to draw the line
Because of you, I listen to my body
And because of you, there are times I just stop so I can hear the
wind whispering in the trees.
You taught me an even deeper understanding of what it means
to take one day at a time
And you taught me to trust with every fiber of my being
You taught me to accept imperfection and frailties in myself and others
And you taught me to sing out loud in the park and not care if anyone
thinks I’m crazy.
You turned what seemed the worst into the best
And you turned me into someone who could ask for help
You turned me into a creature of faith

The True Sources of the Nile by Sarah Stone The title of this book is symbolic of searching
the depth of one’s being for the truth of oneself. Anne, an American social worker in Burundi, Africa,
is drowning in the rapids of a love for/addiction to Jean-Pierre, a Paris-educated Burundian cabinet
minister. The Tutsis and Hutus are in an ever-escalating bloody conflict, and Anne (Ahna, Jean-Pierre
calls her) is almost¾but not quite¾relieved when the decision is made for her to return to California
when she gets the news that her mother is dying of cancer. Her heart is in Burundi, and Annie, as her
family calls her, feels ever more estranged from her real self as she deals with the somehow smaller
issues of an individual life and death. The passion between her and Jean-Pierre continues to flame as
the two are torn apart by heritage. Can she go back to a crisis in Burundi? Could Jean-Pierre ever
adjust to living in America?
The True Sources of the Nile is an engrossing, enlightening read, with life, love, and death intertwining
like a writhing boa.
Sarah Stone lives and writes in the San Francisco Bay area. She reported on human rights and
volunteered at the Jane Goodall Institute in Bujumbura, Burundi, from 1991-1993. Primarily a non-
fiction writer, this is her first novel. ISBN 0-385-50301-6

The Dark Mirror by Juliet Marillier. Book One of the Bridei Chronicles. Set in 554 A.D. in the Pict
culture, this fantasy novel brings an historical time frame alive as a young boy is being raised and
curried by an old druid. The old man’s plan is that one day the boy will vie for the kingship of the
tribes. His best friend is a young female foundling of the good Folk, the faerie folk, and not accepted
by the humans. An excellent read of maturation, questing and history. ISBN 0-765-30998-x.

On the Threshold: Home, Hardwood and Holiness by Elizabeth J. Andrew. Self-reflective essays on

metaphors for inhabiting her body and how her spiritual path unfolds. A deliciously quiet book that
feeds you on the inside. ISBN 0-8133-4296-1.
The Sound of Paper: Starting from Scratch by Julia Cameron. The author steps into the struggle of the
writer, the artist, writer’s block, etc. relating all these inner situations to the daily life of living first in
Manhattan and then in Taos, N.M. as she works on her book. Writing exercises at the end of each
chapter. Each chapter is a few pages. Loved this. ISBN1-58542-354-8.

addressed here. Loved these essays on frustration, emotions, joys. ISBN 1-58542-127-8.

Passing
Like she herself
my mother’s generation is almost gone,
taking with them their secrets and sorrows,
their loves, laughter and liveliness,
their music and memories,
heroes, history and times.
Their replies to our unasked questions
will now forever go unanswered;
their examples will diminish in time.
We’ll keep their handwriting for awhile
and hear their voices in our dreams.
We’ll wear their gems and dust their trinkets,
bake their pies and baste their turkeys,
but we know the baton has been passed.
We’ve now become the, the matriarchs,
and the onus is now on us.

Dear Friends,
Happy New Year! May the New Year bring love and understanding to all of us and may the places of
inner work shine brightly in our everyday lives…
I’ve watched the buy-outs of several integritous and fairly pure health food companies over the years.
I’ve learned to immediately stop buying their products, like White Wave Tofu and now Horizon Dairy
Products.
The incentive for the buy-outs is usually greed. The health food industry’s financial return has jumped
to millions and tens of millions of dollars. These industrial/commercial companies want a piece of the
action. Do they understand the basic motivations of the initial creator of that company? No, they can’t.
They don’t think that way. Instead of a core belief in providing people with organic wholesome food
because it’s what you eat and what you feed your family, the new owners think that their chemical-
laden, genetically engineered stuff (who can call it food) is just fine. So, when the buy-out occurs, the
principles go down the tubes. Now it’s about marketing, profit-margins over purity, and stiff
competition in the market place.
There are several articles inside this newsletter that reiterate this very theme. Fortunately there are new
companies and other products coming to the market that will divulge their parent company so that you
know who you are dealing with, and what you are buying. If you’re ever in doubt, go online and see
what you can find out…and see who’s products you are eating!
Again, the gurus, in the early 70’s, told their disciples in this country: Grow your own food so that you
know where it’s coming from and what’s in it.
Blessings,
Jyoti

We begin the new year with a Full Moon on Jan.3 and Venus enters Aquarius. Personal power is
strong and goals can be set and reached. Introspection is important. Try to balance it with checking in
with others. The unexpected is unexpectedly soothing. Mars trines Saturn on the 8th and is a good
day to harness energy and accomplish something. The 13th is a day of intensity. After the 16th, with
Mars entering Capricorn, working hard pays off. The New Moon on the 18th brings a perseverance
and willingness to work for what we want is available now. Be gracious in your humanity. Help out
where you can.
Trust issues arise over the next several weeks. Jan. ends with Mercury opposing Saturn on the 28th.
Notice needless worry and give your mind a focus. We enter Mercury’s shadow on the 30th.
Feb. begins with the Full Moon on Feb.1st (MST)/Feb.2nd (EST). Balancing our inner authority with
the rules and regulations of others in the world is quite a dance. Create nurturing environments for
yourself. The 8th gives spiritual insights and the 10th brings challenges of confrontation. Mercury goes
Retrograde on the 13th in Pisces and we re-look at boundaries, trust, psychic phenomenon and
whether we trust our impulses, our hunches, or whether we blow them off. The New Moon on the
17th says don’t put all your eggs in one basket. Diversify. Weed out and sift through and decide what’
s important. Venus squares Pluto on the 19th and power struggles may ensue. The 22nd is a day of
introspection, even more so with Mercury still Retrograde. The month ends with Saturn oppose
Neptune on the 28th and the last of the dissolution for this timeframe may be completed now. That
which has needed to fall away has.
March begins with the Full Moon Lunar Eclipse on Mar.3rd. This Lunar Eclipse has a Grand Trine in
Fire with Venus, Saturn and Jupiter. Communication is high. A sense of adventure permeates daily life.
Your life is the Great Adventure. Take the opportunities that present themselves no matter how
eccentrically they seem. On March 5th expect the unexpected. Mercury goes Direct on the 7th
allowing us the grace to clean up the past three weeks, re-doing agreements, making amends, etc.
On the 16th, Jupiter exactly trines Saturn and Venus trines Pluto, a day of flow, of owning power, of
stepping forward. The New Moon Solar Eclipse on the 18th (MST) brings more practical
considerations that are at stake now. Some things are dissolving. Others are preparing to rise and
have their moment in the Sun. Opportunities abound in both directions. See what has your name on it.
The 19th again challenges you with confrontation, power plays and feeling disempowered. How do
we take it back. The Vernal Equinox on the 20th (MDT) begins the first quarter of the astrological
new year and it’s about finding one’s power and learning something new. You know the old. What do
you have to lose. On the evening of the 27th, Mercury catches up and leaves the Retrograde cycle,
stepping into new territory. The month ends with Pluto going Retrograde on Mar.31st (until mid-
Sept.) and we take what we’ve learned the previous six months and work on it internally so that it
can become a true part of us. Happy Equinox!

Whole Foods Pepsi
Pepsi is introducing new products through Whole Foods Market stores. So far, it is a line of chips,
Sun Snacks, and presently test –marketing a smoothie drink, Fuelosophy, at certain locations in the
Midwest and Northeast.. Neither product makes any mention of PepsiCo on the labels.
The company declined to say whether other PepsiCo products are being sold through Whole Foods.
PepsiCo also recently bought out Boulder based Izze Beverage Co., Stacy’s Pita Chips and Mother’s
Natural Cereals. All three products were sold in Whole Foods stores before the buyout, and will
continue to be.
PepsiCo is not doing splashy advertising because “Today’s consumers are very, very suspicious of
heavy marketing”. (Excerpts from Pepsi Targets Natural Food Shoppers by Vinnee Tong, AP., N.Y.)
I would say people are suspicious of Pepsi because of their product ingredients and lack of integrity
when it comes to people’s health….
Wal-Mart accused of faking organics
Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., has been selling non-organic food products that were misrepresented as
organic, according to a legal complaint filed with the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture. (Excerpted from Daily
Camera article by staff and wire reports)
From my perspective: Why Work On Oneself
I'm not trying to be perfect...I'm wanting to see more clearly...I'm tired of the DEGREE of pain and
suffering I experienced for so many years...Is my life without pain and suffering now...no...yet I feel
more clarity and room to make choices than ever in those early years. Am I happier in my own small
way and my own small world...absolutely. Am I more loving and caring of myself, and try to
remember to put myself in each equation as it comes up...absolutely. Could I do that years ago...I
didn't even know that that was a thought or consideration I might even have in reference to life. So this
is just a small reason on my part of why I work on myself. Perfection isn't an issue. We're all works in
progress. There is no finished 'right and done'. We deal with layers and echoes of past trauma and
neglect, whether from our families or ourselves in our unknowing. No blame here. Can we love
ourselves in spite of our imperfections? I' reminded of the Native American practice of placing a
yellow bead in the middle of the
white beaded background as a token of the perfection of the Great Spirit, and how as a human, we
are just working toward that. I think our imperfections keep us humble. And yet we must learn to love
ourselves and others in spite of them.

Glaciers of Disease
A report published in the Journal of Virology says that there is evidence that viruses, bacteria and fungi
may be preserved in glacial ice for up to 140,000 years, posing a threat of infection once they are
thawed. Something that is likely to be more common with global warming. “Ice may act as a reservoir
for influenza-A viruses, preserving them for later release and infection of animals, including migratory
waterfowls and humans,” writes Scott Rogers, the author. Periodic thawing and refreezing of glacial
ice and lakes may explain why “some influenza virus strains may have appeared, disappeared and then
reemerged decades later virtually unchanged.” (Excerpts from Glacial Virus Reservoirs, Earthweek by
Steve Newman).
Winter Delayed
Some ski resorts in the Alps have no snow at all, and flowers blooming at high elevations, too warm to
even use snow-making machines. Flowers are also blooming at 3,500 feet in the Austrian Alps, while
there is rare wintertime color in the some valleys. Bear from Siberia to the Baltic have been unable to
begin their winter hibernation because their dens are warm and damp.

seeing with the soul's eyes, for breathing in life's lush availabilities in all of the senses and possibilities

I Did Not Know Joan
I did not know Joan

I did not know Joan
on the streets of Taos
or at the local tortilleria.
I did not know Joan
as she stretched herself
beyond her mind,
and I did not know Joan
as a mother of sons
and as gramma.
I knew Joan as a sparkling jewel
who had honed her breath
and polished her vision
to take and include
the great breath and breadth
of the Universe
as it usually is not known.
I knew Joan as a loving heart,
a generous spirit of brilliant magnitude
that accepted and loved everyone
as a part of herself
and herself as a part
of a larger being
some call God.
I knew that when Joan hugged me,
her heart, magnificent and large,
met mine and love poured
out of her for everyone.
Her dramatic flair for the truth
was only rivaled
by her effort to speak it.
I knew she had wrestled demons,
and she flexed those muscles daily
to keep her eyes open,
to be able to set her eyes
on truth in its many forms
and dared herself
not to fall asleep again.
I knew she had fought valiantly,
collected the true wisdoms
of many paths,
in which she immersed herself,
lest she forget
the truth of life
and why we live.
I loved Joan as a sister, an ally,
as someone who, in the briefest of times,
opened my heart to myself,
showed me how freedom appeared
as it lived in a human body,
and shared her love unstintingly
with her friends.

1970’s, when the conflict between traditional values and the twentieth century became heated, as told
through the lives of the members of a Western-educated highly-placed (fictional) family. The plot
weaves politics and relationships into a tragic whole, depicting the torn loyalties of so many Middle-
Easterners today. The book gives a face to the ongoing conflict as well as revealing the history of it,
including the West’s role in the collapse of stability in Afghanistan, leading to the Soviet invasion and
the rise of the Taliban. Some characters who play a minor role in the book are historical people, and
the novel is built upon actual events. A compelling read. The author has written for The Washington
Post, the L.A. Times, and the Boston Globe on sensitive sociological topics from Afghanistan to
Native American affairs. ISBN 0-312-30173-1 Reviewed by Holly Morgan
Resurrection by Tucker Malarkey. The pace of this novel/mystery draws you in slowly, relentlessly so
that you’re interested even if you’re thinking the pace should be faster. If it was, the richness of the
story and the sense of place would be lost. The author teases with language that is descriptively rich.
Some of her sentences are beautifully crafted. To Cairo a young woman travels from London,
immediately post WWII. She has come to find out what led her father, an archeologist, to his death as
he searched for the lost gospels of Thomas and Mary Magdalene. The Church was opposed to these
long-hidden Nag Hammadi texts. Intrigue, love and wise verses reveal themselves to our heroine in the
city and then in the vast desert. A great read! ISBN#1-59448-919-x.
The Expected One by Kathleen McGowan. A young woman begins a search for the Magdalene
scrolls, hidden in the French Pyrenees two centuries ago, as part of her research for a new book. She
comes across the legends of Mary and her lineage down through the ages; the Cathars and their
sacred trust; travels from Jerusalem to the cathedrals in Paris. She must unravel the clues that are
being put before her and see, if indeed, she is the expected one! Wonderful Story…. ISBN#0-7432-

Dressing Myself In Garments
Like the bride preparing for her bridegroom,
scenting her body
combing her hair
dressing in her finest of raiment
I ready myself for my next step
along the path.
I begin with my resistances
and like old rouge and lipstick
I slowly wipe away
the traces of the past
and what has kept me smitten with myself
in limitation.
I continue with old wounds
that justified my standing still
and not embracing
the unexpected wonders
that come with risk.
I dress myself in the garments
of the expectation of new possibilities
and leave room for new adventures

Dear Friends,
People sometimes ask me: Is it going to get any easier? Can we go back to the way it was in a milder
time?
Right now it’s more intense that at other times. So I see that we may, from time to time, have a
lightening of turmoil. But are things going to go back to the way they were. No. We can't go back...
how can we undo the growth we've made, the lessons we've learned...there's no going back...there is
no simpler time...we are forging ahead and facing what we have to face, and we are developing the
strength and insight to do it as we go. We're okay. The world is as it must be at these times.
We’re evolving, moving into new energies, new awarenesses. And even though it’s not very
comfortable, it is necessary in the progression of things.
Among other things, it brings up trust. Do we trust that we will be taken care of. Do we trust that there
is a Divine Plan of some kind at work here. If we do, then we need to let go of the small view and
step into what’s next for us.
If we don’t, then maybe it’s time to re-examine our belief systems and see what’s getting in our way.
We are stepping into the winding-down time of year, the finishing up, the descent…the energy is to go
down and in…find the pearl of great price…and re-emerge with it into your life after the Winter
Solstice in December.
I wish you Happy Diving!
And please, have a blessed holiday season…Love, Jyoti

Prayer of Letting Go
In the time of letting go, may snake teach me its medicine of shedding its skin, of leaving the old, and
moving into the new. May I learn to appreciate endings and deaths as new opportunities for growth,
and step into them with anticipation instead of dread.
May I learn to honor the natural cycles of life.
The birds of peace
ruffle their feathers,
leaning into one another.
They will remain
until and when
we make room for peace
in our own hearts
and refuse the invitation to war.

Fall Astrology Column
Initial Note: There is a dynamic at work here during the New and Full Moons of Oct. and Nov. Mars
is very close to all of them giving them an energy of energizing, pushing, motivating, and is a dynamic
force to keep thing moving along.
October begins with the Harvest Full Moon on the 6th. Insights and intuitions are strong. One’s
financial world is up for another look and spiritual concepts want to be live, not just considered. On
the 9th, we enter the shadow of Mercury Retrograde. We begin the process of going within and
seeing what issues are up to deal with. The 10th brings an easier day of exploring spiritual and musical
themes. The New Moon on the 21st (MDT) brings a new state of affairs, new cycle of dynamic
possibilities. Insights, a larger view, larger picture of what might work and where self-limitation has
held reign, is the focus. A lot of transformative power available. On the 28th, Mercury goes
Retrograde in Scorpio and we dive deeply into the depths of ourselves, looking for answers and
insights. On the 29th, Neptune goes Direct (Retrograde since May 23rd) and we begin to more fully
live our spiritual principles. Mercury is conjunct Jupiter on the 30th, and gives a broader view.
November begins with Sun trine Uranus on the 3rd…a day of freedom of self expression at its core.
The Full Moon on the 5th brings a very artistic and creative cycle of time. Transformative energy is
high. Questions of self identity and where one is placing their focus/investments arise. The Transit of
Mercury on Nov.8th brings Mercury close to the Sun’s face, like Mars and Venus were a few years
ago. Balancing insights without self absorption will be key, yet personal insights are very strong. The
11th is a good day for debating. Avoid arguments. On the 16th, trust your judgment. Mercury goes
Direct on the 17th and we begin to straighten out the misunderstandings that were rife during the Rx
period. The New Moon in Scorpio on the 20th has Jupiter in the degree of the Magician. Many things
can happen here. Many changes, new ideas, new paths of action open up. The 21st expands all of
that with the Sun conjunct Jupiter. On the 22nd, we enter Sag. and life feels a bit easier. Thanksgiving
comes on the 23rd with Jupiter entering Sag. also, expanding us beyond what this past year limited.
We end November with Mars square Saturn on the 28th and it’s like a fire was lit under us. Can we
push past our self-imposed limitations.
December begins with the Full Moon on the 4th, and Mercury catches up from its Rx cycle and
moves into new territory. Standing for your freedoms, whether physical, mental or communicative, is
vital now, and standing for those who cannot speak for themselves is vital as well. Balance large view
with things that need details looked after. On the 5th, Saturn goes Retrograde and Mars enters Sag: a
day to look for adventure while taking responsibility for what’s yours also.
The 18th has Sun conjunct Pluto, a very intense day and yet empowering. The New Moon on the
20th is about leaving the past year of Jupiter square Saturn with up and down finances behind, for a
more invigorating and enlivened year ahead. The Winter Solstice on the 21st, the last quarter of the
astrological year, brings a need to mature our views and actions. Teaching and learning situations
flourish. Christmas Day brings a Mercury conjunct Pluto aspect and one may see more deeply than
usual. The mysteries of the Universe or family issues may be equally apparent. Happy Holiday!

our minds into sacred ecstasy.

Writing To Change the World by Mary Pipher. As the expression goes: If you can talk, you can sing.
I think if you can think, you can write. The author’s words spoke to me in such a way that her

depth of understanding and met me where I stood. This book can inspire, awaken, and coax your
words out, so that you can stand shoulder to shoulder with those whose voices are needed now.

A small volume of poetry and memoir. Thoughts from readers:
I read your book of poetry...It was really considerate of you to share it with me. Two in particular that

I think you've put together a manual for seeing with the soul's eyes, for breathing in life's lush
availabilities in all of the senses and possibilities and in the energy of dreams, stages, memories,
completions and beginnings, how all of this and so much more creates the richness of the circle and the
spiral -- you've done a grand thing of lasting import -- your gift is deeply appreciated. Would that my
touch with words was as sensitive, experienced, attuned, deeply felt and compliant to the flow of
creation as yours, you would have a sense of how much you have accomplished through your writings
in this book. And the cover is beautiful, the title is just perfect. PR, CA
I have been reading your book in snatches. I see your imagery, particularly in your poetry, as sudden
and outwardly detached yet observant of the inner quiet and acceptance of our own deaths. You are
painting a picture of individual truth which is what a true artist usually creates great work from. I like
what I have read and appreciate your truthing. MK, CO
In The Omnivores Dilemma, Michael Pollan asks the question, what should we have for dinner? To
find out, he follows each of the food chains that sustain us – industrial (fast food and processed food),
organic and alternative, and food we forage ourselves. He traces a meal at McDonalds back to its
basic ingredient – corn. I never thought a chapter on corn could startle me so. He doesn’t point
fingers so much as explain how it all came to be and what can be done about it. He explains why it’s
so hard to get away from things like High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS), which is in everything. Any
why organic isn’t always what it says it is. This is a very fascinating, well written book to put on your
“to read” list. ISBN 1-59420-082-3

Moving Art
A French wire service story reports that a test group of 20 elderly women who met once a week to
discuss art, required fewer laxatives than a control group who spoke of hobbies and interests. Other
benefits were lower blood pressure and a positive attitude. (Excerpted from Utne Reader, July/Aug.

Timely Find
A construction worker in Ireland found a book of psalms dating back to 800 A.D. or so, as he was
driving the shovel of his backhoe into a bog. The book was opened to a page of Latin script, where
God is hearing complaints of other nations’ attempts to wipe out the name of Israel. (Excerpted from
an AP article by Shawn Pogatchnik.)
Archetype information from Carolyn Myss
The call to Mystical Service - the new archetype at work in the world: Many people are being "called"
into "mystical service" in this world, but
because they are unfamiliar with the nature of mysticism and dialoging with their soul, they are unable
to de-code the guidance that is stirring in
their interior.
In brief, a mystic is a person called by God to change the world through the power of their souls,
working in intimate union with the Divine. This classic archetype of the mystic is being revisited or
revised for our contemporary spiritual community because the world is now the monastery and many
are being called into "mystical service".
These individuals need to;
1) Recognize that they are being "called".
2) Learn to build a soul with stamina, a soul able to channel grace and heal through prayer, individually
and at a distance.
3) To change the world in silence, invisibly through the power of their souls.
My deep belief is that we have spent enough time on our healing. We need to become active channels
of grace in this world because that is what this age of spiritual transformation was intended to initiate.
It's time to consider that you may well be a "mystic without a monastery"
being called into mystical service in a world in need of channels for grace and healing, which is the
highest potential of a soul with genuine stamina.
You have to ask for help. The other beings who are guides for us need to be asked. They cannot
interfere or take it upon themselves to help or change things until they are asked.

Shedding Old Skins
Sometimes small epiphanies
dawn in a moment of everyday business
and you see the practiced routines
that you’ve insinuated into your nervous system,
tape loops that circle
like buzzards waiting for the kill
only the ‘kill’ is you
and your growth.
Sometimes one needs to peel off
those old skins of habitual patterns,
pull the tape strands out
by the neck until dead and buried,
those ways of being
that served you in old days and times
and now you can clearly see
are not who you want to be.
Shedding old skins is intense
drawing up the bad blood and regrets,
resentments you’d rather not see,
yet, once seen, must be healed,
healed cell by cell,
DNA strands cleared to bring in more light,
and those skins laid to rest,
no longer yours.

Present global situation:
What you can do:
People feel that they want to do something. They may pray for the world and all the peoples upon the
Earth, but sit by and feel helpless to deal with war, global warming, starvation and poverty, etc. It
occurred to me that since we’ve chosen a certain sign to be born under, that that element that sign
represents is our strength. So how can we use it.
You might want to check which element you are and experiment with working in that field. Be
creative. Share your experiences. I’d love to hear how it’s going.
Water signs: Pisces, Cancer, Scorpio. The strength of water. Using visualization techniques, water
people can begin to clean the waters of the planet, rivers, streams, oceans, ponds, etc. The effects of
tsunamis, coastline flooding, melting glaciers and snow pack. Pollution of oceans and fish. Water is
also emotions/feelings and the emotional body. Blood stream and fluids in/from the body.
Fire signs: Aries, Leo, Sagittarius. The strength of fire. They can work to inspire (not manipulate)
world leaders. They also could work with the magma in the Earth’s core, how the plates shift and
move to release the pressure of this molten mass. Volcanoes and eruptions. Angers and heated
debates. Bombs and explosions. Forest fires and inflammable situations. Global warming and elevated
temperatures. Heated conditions, inflammations, of the body.
Earth signs: Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn. Earth signs can work best in a practical manner, day-to-day
business and negotiating. Financial exchanges and sharings. Food to feed people, and being able to
grow it. Houses, shelters. Doing business with integrity and truth-speaking.
The vices of human life…prostitution, slavery, drugs, solids, wastes, landfills, atomic and plutonium
waste, superfund cleanup sites, Chernobyl, insects, creatures of the Earth. The muscles, bones and
tissues of the body. Our actions in daily life and living our truth.
Air signs: Aquarius, Gemini, Libra. Air people can devote energy to communications, insights, clarity,
language, perceptions, projections. Air currents, wind, tornadoes, storms. The mental field and mental
body. The thoughts, fantasies, and resentments of the mind. Using creative visualization to see it all in
better form.
=======================================
Birds, winged-ones. The lungs and oxygen content of blood, air passage ways, brain development for
thinking, education, memory, respect for others’ opinions.
Perhaps this is how we can work on holding the highest good for all concerned, and see how far we
can take it in an effort to help each other, the Earth, and ourselves have a better life.

Dear Friends,
I’m hearing stories of large changes taking place in people’s lives: quitting a job and starting
their own business; creating and marketing a play; compiling and publishing a book; major
moves from places where they’ve lived for thirty-five years to a totally different terrain; moves
across town, out of state, out of country. I see a real shake-up here and the result seems to be
people doing what they’d always wanted to be doing. Enough waiting. It’s time to step up and
do it!
All of this seems to take a certain level of courage and willingness to go with the flow. And even,
initially, the ability to hear those inner promptings that are whispering in one’s ear.
I recently saw The Celestine Prophecy movie. Had read the books years ago and had heard James
Redfield speak at that time, however I didn’t know that a movie had been made about it. An
advertisement in Nexus made me aware of it. I really enjoyed the film. It gave me clear images of what
I had read. It also showed examples of how the eight insights work in this reality. There was mystery
and intrigue as well, and it held my interest throughout.
I’m in the process of self-publishing my first book, a dream I’ve had since I was nine years old. It’s
different than what I thought it would be, yet it’s what has been coming to me. By Grace’s Edge:
Poetry, Prose and Prayer will be available in early July.
Blessings,
Jyoti

We begin July with Mercury going Retrograde (Rx) on July 4th. Time to re-look and rethink issues
from the third week of June, also where our nurturing comes from and how we let it in. As always with
Mercury Rx, it is a time of inner looking, meditative and being with ourselves, even though we still
communicate our needs and wants to the outer world. Jupiter goes Direct on July 6th and later that
day the Sun trines Uranus giving us a very expansive day, a day to allow others and ourselves to be
more of who we really are. The Full Moon on the 10th, challenges our values, our visions and how we
express our feelings. A lot of healing is possible with a Grand Trine in Water this full moon also. So for
each challenge, we are asked to look for the silver lining. The 14th has Mars trine Pluto and proves to
be a very powerful day. The Sun leaves Cancer and enters Leo on the 22nd. The New Moon on the
24th brings home and family into focus. It also asks how well are we doing at growing ourselves and
developing aspects of our personality. Are you in the flow of trust and allowing. Is there room for
more of these qualities in your daily life. Venus trines Jupiter on the 26th and brings an enjoyable day
and possible financial gain. And the month ends with Mercury going Direct on the 28th and we redo
the previous three weeks to a greater level of satisfaction.
August begins with the Sun conjunct Saturn on the 7th, a day of taking responsibility for what’s ours.
The Full Moon on the 9th asks us to look at the polarities we create in everyday life. How do we
balance the opposites. How do we create a conjoined focus to bring these polarities together. The
evening of the 10th brings a questioning, a curiosity leading to deeper looking with the Sun opposing
Neptune. Mercury catches up on the 11th from where it originally went Rx at on July 4th, and ends
this cycle, moving now into new territory. Mars opposes Uranus on the 13th, early in the A.M. and
brings an erratic energy to the day. Keep a cool head and awareness of energy expenditure. The Sun
enters Virgo on the 23rd after midnight, and mid-afternoon is the New Moon. Financial potential is
elevated now. Insights and educational pursuits are favored. On the 29th, Mars squares Pluto and
brings volatile energy to the fore. Avoid confrontations where possible.
September begins with Pluto going Direct on the 4th, Labor Day. It’s been Rx since the end of March
and now offers opportunities for transforming deeper issues that we’ve all been working on, and
brings the results into consciousness. The Lunar Full Moon Eclipse on the 7th asks: How do we
communicate in layman’s terms what we see in the larger picture when we look at life. Trust your
hunches and intuitions. Own your own personal power. The Sun squares Pluto on the 16th and we
again are asked where we are giving our power away. On the 22nd, there is a Solar New Moon
Eclipse early in the day and it’s a new cycle showing us how complacent we’ve been on serious
issues. And where, now, we must make other choices. Later on this day, the Sun enters Libra and we
have the Autumnal Equinox. This quarter of the year asks us to manifest our beliefs and our need for
balance and harmony in our personal lives, and in our global participation. How do we focus and use
our intelligence for the good of all. Happy Fall!

Astrological Fertility Cycles
Using the Sun/Moon angle in a woman’s birth chart, her fertility cycle can be found.
Originally discovered and used as a means of astrological birth control, this method has also proved
successful in reverse: being able to determine moments of fertility for those who want to conceive.
Each month, as the Sun and Moon create that same birth angle again, a woman’s fertility cycle can be
charted in that month and each month throughout the successive year.

Dad’s Education
Education has a big influence on how dads interact with their kids, a new government survey states.
The findings include: fathers who have higher levels of education are more involved in their children’s
daily lives; 80% of fathers who live with their children, who are under the age of five, played with them
every day in the previous month. Those with more education tend to interact the most; 87% said they
played with their children daily; about 65% of more educated fathers say they routinely bathe or dress
their children compared with 42% of those less educated; 32% of more educated me read to their
kids daily, compared with about 20% of less educated men.
Education also makes a dramatic difference in a man’s likelihood of fathering a child outside of
marriage. Almost 50% of men without a high school education have done so, compared to 6% of
college graduates. (Excerpted from an article by Rob Stein, Washington Post.)

Spitsbergen will be designed to withstand catastrophes like nuclear war or large meteor impact, which
would destroy the planet’s agriculture. (Excerpted from Earth Watch by )
Reality has a way of intruding on illusion. Al Gore.
”I have already described how it (the mind) could only be aware of a very limited range of ideas at
any one moment and could not combine apparently conflicting themes. Now I found that it did have a
dim notion of the ideas which there was not room for it to keep in mind, but that it was inclined to deal
with these by imputing them to other people. If I was in an elated mood and what I was doing seemed
to me very good indeed, then the banished self-criticism would appear to me as imagined disparaging
remarks by other people. If, as often happened, I wanted to do two irreconcilable things, the desire
which was not uppermost at the moment would seem to belong to someone else.
….It was as if my excluded thoughts, if I refused to give them expression, would find it for themselves,
like bubbles which must eventually reach the surface. And they would find expression by silently
biasing my view of the world around me. Sometimes my hatred of some part of myself which I would
not accept became a hatred of someone else, and I would say all sorts of things about that person, but
anyone who was perceiving could tell that I was really speaking about myself.” (Excerpted from A
Life of One’s Own by Joanna Field.)
This Edge
Alone, but not lonely,
I toy with the cliff’s edge.
I’ve been taught to fly.
My dream memories
remind me.
I just don’t know
if my body will make it.
I’ve sat here
on this very edge
for several lifetimes now,
preparing for the moment
when, with courage at hand,
I step off the edge,
trusting my thoughts to be true.
I’ve remembered this edge
through lives of religion,
sitting with children,
and running the hunt,
while contemplating sphinx’
and bringing dolphins to land
and humans to see.
Hesitation of mind
pauses the breath
and feet stay put
while spirit yells ‘let go!’
Maybe this time
I will take the leap,
dreaming my flight to be true.

Guest Book Review by John Cardin
Bush On The Couch: Inside the Mind of the President by Justin Frank, M.D.
Wouldn’t you just love to be a fly-on-the-wall while George Bush was getting a psychiatric
evaluation? Well, now you can be—at least in a hypothetical sense. Justin Frank, M.D., has
undertaken an ‘armchair’ psychoanalysis of George Bush from a distance, based upon his speeches,
press conferences, and the public record of what he says and what he does. Dr. Frank reports his
conclusions in Bush On The Couch, a non-technical book suitable for the lay reader. What we get is a
revelatory portrait of a disturbed man with many unresolved issues, acting-out his conflicted
childhood, his drinking, his lawlessness, his power-lust, and even that creepy smirk! This book is a
must read for anyone interested in what drives the man with his hand on the button. ISBN 0-06-

“Discipline is misunderstood in your world….Discipline is a process. It’s not an end….I’m saying that

“You must initiate the exact event you desire…you must saturate your being with whatever it is you

Spring 2006
Dear Friends,
It’s so important to respond. To let people know you care and are thinking of them. To thank
someone for a kindness or a gift. Respond comes from the same root as responsible. To act back
after an effort has been made. To take responsibility to turn again. To respond to a call for help, or a
need expressed, or ownership for something one has done.
We are quick to respond in anger. Can we respond equally well in kindness and gratitude.
After reading The Long Emergency (see Book Reviews), one man’s detailed vision of possibility in the
collapse of a cheap-oil economy, I’m struck by memories of some great prophecies and the movie
The Postman. This author’s work is heavily researched and some may find it negative, although that’s
relative term, isn’t it, when we’re talking about possible early warning signals that we’ve already
dismissed.
I wanted to know what he saw as I’m watching the slipping and sliding of our economy and life as we
knew it in the industrial age. It was an incredible read. I’m going to try and pick his brain when he
shows up for a talk and book signing in Boulder in early May. (May 9, 7:30 PM, at Unity Church,
2855 Folsom, $5.).
Blessings, Jyoti

Spring Astrology Column
April
We begin April with Saturn turning Direct on the 5th, giving us energy to turn our attention to outward
goals. Mars opposes Pluto in the wee hours of the 8th and gives us direct challenges. The day before
and the day after are potentially powerful. The Full Moon in Aires on April 13th brings us reminders
of early March, only now with greater insights. Communication is vital. Tend to deeper issues. The
Sun and Pluto are moving to exact trine (April 16th, Easter Sunday) and brings a good deal of
personal power. Frustration on the 24th and a push to become more of one’s own authority by the
New Moon in Taurus (27th). This moon phase is also a new cycle of pushing past self-limitations.
Mental powers of perception are especially strong.
As the month ends, Venus squares Pluto (30th) and opportunities to see the need for a direction
change become evident to some.
May
May begins with Jupiter trine Uranus (4th) and expansiveness and just good luck are the words of the
day. The Full Moon in Taurus on the 13th suggests that one’s willingness to examine one’s spiritual
beliefs is very important now. Where is the gap between blind faith and true understanding. Power
plays possible in the work place. Look at the underpinnings to see what’s needed. Neptune goes
Retrograde on the 22nd and it’s a deeper looking that’s needed for while (until late Oct.). The Gemini
New Moon on the 26th (MDT) brings healing potential and the idea that one can manifest their vision
more fully. Finances are still up and down with Saturn and Jupiter still ‘square’ dancing. On the 31st,
Mercury opposes Pluto and we may struggle to be clear yet not offensive in our communications. We
are seeing deeply.
June
June 5th wants freedom of self-expression and dances with erratic energy. On the 10th, we may feel
more spiritually viable and secure. The Gemini Full Moon on the 11th has Moon conjunct Pluto and
invites deeper emotionally transformative conversations. Opportunities to access deeper issues and
heal them abound. Sun opposes Pluto on the 16th and challenges are rampant. Keep your own
counsel as much as possible. The 17th brings a kick-start to where you’ve felt lethargic. Uranus goes
Retrograde on the 19th (until mid Nov.) and we examine our own personal freedom needs, attitudes
and inequalities. June 21st, Summer Solstice and the Sun’s entrance into Cancer, begins the next
quarter of the year. The letting go of stultifying and limiting relationships are focus. Build new
foundations and solidify healthy ones. Find appropriate outlet for emotional issues. The New Moon in
Cancer on the 25th continues the revamping of relationship belief systems. Expand career
opportunities and your financial range, while maintaining a balance. We end this month with the Sun
trine Jupiter on the 30th (5:22 PM, MDT) and we see possibilities not glimpsed in a while. We feel
more celebratory.
Happy Summer!!!!

Solar Storms
Solar activity over the next eleven years will possibly be 50 times stronger than we’ve known before.
This activity affects electromagnetic currents on the earth through communications, power grids and

Book Reviews Spring 2006
Astrology For The Soul by Jan Spiller. I’d heard of this book for several years and recently picked it
up to read her interpretation of where my North Node was placed.
The North Node in a natal chart represents the learning curve of the life; the place where we are in
uncharted waters and the soul is learning by leaps and bounds. Her interpretation of the North Node
in each of the twelve signs, a chapter devoted to each, is stunning. An accomplished piece of work
here. She weaves into the present lessons the work of what needs to be let go of from the past.
Included in the beginning of the book is a table for ascertaining where a person’s North Node position
can be found. An excellent and importantly informative book for everyone. ISBN:0-553-37038-4.
The Way of the Traveler: Making Every Trip a Journey of Self-Discovery by Joseph Dispenza. The
author, a monk for eight years and a teacher of media ethics, is presently the co-founder and director
of the Parcells Center for Personal Transformation in Santa Fe. He shows us how the idea of
journey/travel/pilgrimage occurs and evolves until one is actually traveling, both inwardly as well as
outwardly. A small book with a beautiful voice. Segments include The Dream of the Journey,
Preparation, The Journey, the Homecoming, and Recounting the Tale. (See excerpt in newsletter)
ISBN:156261448-4.
For those mystery lovers: I have so enjoyed Catherine Coulter’s FBI Thriller series including The
Cove, The Maze, The Target, etc. Loved them.
The Long Emergency: Surviving the Converging Catastrophes of the 21st Century by James Howard
Kunstler. The author feels ‘we are in for a rough ride through uncharted territory’. He looks at the
trends from where we are and our dependency on fossil fuels to where he thinks we will likely go.
James, a thirty-year writer for The Rolling Stone, sees us heading to more local and smaller
economies. As the downscaling of America takes place, the collapse of national and state
governments, and personal production of food takes us into new ways of living, I’m reminded of the
Y2K survival reminders as I read his words. He looks at life in the urbanized southern deserts and
what it takes to live there in a ‘cheap-oil’ economy and what it may look like when that is over. Very
interesting and incredibly researched. ISBN 0-87113-888-3.
The Gift of Change: Spiritual Guidance for Living Your Best Life by Marianne Williamson. Marianne
discuses how the speed of change that is in the world and in our own personal lives is a spiritual
necessity. Can we embrace change as it comes instead of dreading it.
“For those of us who are cynical, for those of us who are too tired now, for those of us who are
weary of the way things always go, for those of us who used to care but are too busy now just trying
to get by, there is change afoot. It begins in the heart. As it rises to the surface, it will change all
things.” ISBN0-06-081611-2.
Acupressure for Emotional Healing: A Self-Care Guide for Trauma, Stress and Common Emotional
Imbalances by Michael Reed Gach, Ph.D. and Beth Ann Henning, Dipl., A.B.T. The authors give
clear instructions and use diagrams and photos to present the use of acupressure to release muscular
tension and restore energy flow. Focusing on Abandonment and Co-dependency, Addiction, Panic
Attacks, Depression and PTSD among other conditions, the manner of delivery is understandable and
immediately usable and easy. An excellent healing tool. ISBN 0-553-38243-8.
Walking in This World: The Practical Art of Creativity by Julia Cameron. A six disc of seven hours. A
wonderful narrative leading one through the exercises and deeper thinking that one can listen to in
those quiet moments. It asks us to see and use our creativity. Read from Cameron’s book of the same
title, this CD set is the ‘intermediate level’ of the Artist’s Way program. A very supportive tool for
one’s creative process. ISBN 1-56511700X.
An interesting writing exercise for those who want to try it. (Not from the above body of work). See
yourself between 50 and 200 years in the future, writing about this time frame (2006). You are
looking back at what is going on now, and implies being in a different place than what is taking place
right now. It takes you out of the present, and makes the present, the past…If you have any desire to
share it, send it to me for the next issue.
Be That Which You Are
Surrender your personality; that is, who you think you are, who you think you must be. Let go of your
worries, your thoughts, your ideas of what you should be, and simply be that which you are.
The only conflicts that are created are when you are trying to be something you are not, when you
make up an identity that is false, that is not representative of your truth. Then you have conflict.
Because that which you are not will always bring conflict with it, and resistance and struggle... and
strife...and pain.
But that which you were created to be, that which you naturally are, fits automatically with everything
else that naturally is. Because the universe is a whole idea, that is, it is one thing, and therefore all the
pieces in their natural form, by definition, must fit together.
Be open to whatever unfolds. If you become uncomfortable, watch your breathing. Just be present
with what is (the discomfort). Allow things to come up, and give yourself permission to just watch, to
just be with it. You don’t have to do anything. Notice it, and learn from it.
This is a space of non-action, as opposed to reaction. You are giving yourself the space to formulate
an appropriate solution from a place of safety and neutrality. You are giving yourself the space to be
who you are.

Getting There
Suddenly we are on the journey.
It has not truly come suddenly, of course, but only seems so. We have been in preparation for weeks,
perhaps months. We have been waiting for this moment since we heard the faint call to journey in a
dream, and that may have been a long time ago.
Too often we think the journey will begin when we arrive at our destination. But getting to that
destination is also part of the journey. In fact, it may be the most important part. When we turn to our
rich cultural heritage of myth, literature and history, we find that always and everywhere the approach
to the destination has been regarded as sacred.
Medieval cathedrals were designed with the concept of the approach foremost in the minds and hearts
of the builders. We look at a magnificent cathedral from above, seeing it as a bird sees it: as a cross,
with the entrance at the foot and the place of the unfolding mysteries deep inside, at the crossing.
From the cathedral’s entrance to the crossing is the long walk to the heart of faith…the approach.
Ancient civilizations made the processional an indispensable part of every holy ceremony. In the ruins
of the forums and markets of the ancient world we discover the remains of wide avenues constructed
for the all-important ceremonial approach.
…Throughout history, the act of moving in the direction of the destination has been profoundly
significant.
So it is for us. We make ourselves aware at every moment that we are moving steadily toward the aim
of our journey.
…All travel on the way to our goal is a consecrated activity.
We know that the process of the journey is itself the journey. Every step we take tells us something
more about who we are.
We proceed to our destination.
And as we walk, the procession transforms us.
(Excerpted from The Way of the Traveler by Joseph Dispenza)
Birds of Peace
Out of the wayward skies
upon the branches of a bare winter tree
alight the birds of peace.
God knows, we need them now.
We always thought there was only one
in the form of a dove,
white and soft and downy,
with the proverbial olive branch
held lightly in her beak.
How can a peace offering
be held lightly
when the world’s battlefields
are running with blood and gore.
It must be clutched to the heart
where all light and the ideals
of true human life reside
and can imbue that peace offering
with all the heart can call upon.
The tree rustles itself
among the settling of feathers and claws
as the birds of peace dig in.
They are here.
They are not leaving anytime soon.
They have been called out of the Universal Mind
by those whose souls have been
sickened by war
and have cried ‘enough’
loud enough
for them to hone in on and arrive.
These birds of peace
will continue to hold the space
until we,
as sleep-walking humans,
awake to our own evolutionary cues,
and remember that we alone
are responsible for what happens here.
That we alone
are the peace makers and the war mongers
and the choice is always ours.
The birds of peace
ruffle their feathers,
leaning into one another
as gales of human selfishness
bend the winter tree near in half.
They flutter wings of joy
when we glimpse the light
of true peace and accord
with our sisters and brothers.
They will remain
until and when
we make room for peace
in our own hearts
and refuse the invitation to war.

Winter Editorial
Dear Friends,
In the latest Harry Potter movie “The Goblet of Fire”, Professor Dumbledore says to Harry, “Soon
we will all have to choose between what is right and what is easy.”
I feel we are truly moving in that direction. What is easy and takes little thought and enables things to
flow along, easing the stress, sometimes of everything, but may not be the choice you would make if
you had the time and forethought, would need to really be looked at. And what is right action isn’t
necessarily easy, sometimes difficult, yet fits in the heart and our sense of place.
There is no question here what we would want to choose. Yet how many times do we look at the
easy way out, quick-fix solutions, vs. a more focused approach, with much more satisfying results.
Food for thought.
Amidst all the intensities I see people writing and expressing themselves in their own creative ways.
And it reminds me of the seven year passage of Uranus moving though Pisces (March 2003-May
2010), and how its natural propensity is to further the Arts. It’s a time of recognition of the value of
the writer, artist, musician has in his community, a greater value than has been noticed at other times.
Uranus in Pisces also has the potential to more fluidly link the alternate health community with the
AMA conventional approach to health. So it was good to see on the news recently how Yoga is being
prescribed for back problems. It’s true, alternate healing methods is usually sought as a last resort, but
as Yoga has become more mainstream, Massage through spas and health clubs more recognized, and
the upsurge of maximum stress in the work arena has led corporations to bring in stress reduction
managers (such as meditation and relaxation consultants), there is a mix of modalities at hand.
Welcome to 2006!
Blessings,
Jyoti
Winter Meditation
In the time of hibernation and retreat, a meditation each night before bed feels appropriate. From the
wisdom centers in your own mind, aura, mental bodies, however you see it, send Light to the World.
Picture the globe, the Earth, Gaia, as a living breathing body of consciousness. Beam your Goodwill,
Light and Love into her. As she is going through her own growth process, she will be able to take in
all you send for the betterment of the planet. We all benefit from those prayers of Light.
Energy Efficient Products in the News
Sky-rocketing energy prices are catching everyone’s eye and the concern about how to save energy
looms large on everyone’s mind. The more energy you use, the more it hurts your pocket. Not many
people can afford $300 gas bills, so the question is…how can I save energy while maintaining comfort
in my home? New technology has entered the marketplace: Rinnai Tankless Water Heaters and
Rinnai Ductless Furnaces.
Rinnai is the largest gas appliance manufacturer in the world and is based in Nagoya, Japan. Since
1974, Rinnai North America has been based in Peachtree City, GA. Japan doesn’t have a domestic
supply of natural resources. As a result, the cost of natural gas is close to seven times the cost of ours
in America. That is why Rinnai’s engineers design products that don’t waste a drop of energy and
pride themselves on safety.
Rinnai Tankless Water Heaters are the most efficient water heaters on the market today. They
provide endless hot water and can save up to 70% of the energy compared with standard tank-style
water heaters. Rinnai uses the exact amount of gas needed to heat water. They guarantee the output
temperature to within 2 degrees of the set-point temperature. Rinnai is the safest water heater on the
market and because of the 100% sealed-combustion concentric vent; they can be installed in a closet
and still meet standard code requirements. There is absolutely no threat of leaking combustion gases.
The water heaters are freeze-protected to -30 degrees F and can be installed outside. Rinnai
Tankless Water Heaters save space, energy and provide an endless supply of hot water.
The Federal Government passed an energy bill in 2005 that allows homeowners to save up to $300
on their income taxes by installing energy-efficient water heaters. The tax credit goes into effect Jan.
1, 2006 and continues through Dec. 31, 2007. You can view the link at: www.energy.senate.gov.
Rinnai also makes a ductless furnace. The largest furnace is 38,000 btu (a measurement of how much
gas is used) and heats an area up to 1,800 square feet with absolutely no ductwork. Because there is
up to 25% of heat lost in ductwork, Rinnai’s engineers developed a way to efficiently heat a home
without it. They do this by convection, thermal-dynamics and the market’s most exact thermostat.
The Rinnai Ductless Furnace creates an air-flow throughout your living space (convection). With
Rinnai’s infinitely modulating fan, the air constantly moves, allowing the heat to go to the coldest area
of your house, heat that air and bring the cold air back to the furnace. The furnace then uses very low
amounts of gas to heat the air to the thermostat set point and the fan to keep that air moving (thermal
dynamics). The thermostat is two inches off the floor and reads the coldest air temperature (because
heat rises). It then reacts to a temperature change within .3 of a degree of the set-point temperature
and allows the furnace to fire in 1,000 btu (a measurement of gas) increments.
Compare that with a standard forced-air furnace. The thermostat is placed about 50 inches off the
floor, on a wall in a different area of your home than the furnace. These thermostats react to a
temperature change of anywhere from 1 to 3 degrees. The furnace has one gas setting of 100,000
btus. Each time the thermostat calls for heat, the furnace has the option of only firing 100,000 btus,
compared with Rinnai’s option of 1,000 btu increments. Therefore, with the Rinnai Ductless Furnace,
you will have a very comfortable, constant heat and save up to 40% of your energy.

It Isn’t My Job To Save You
It isn’t my job to save you.
I’ve tried that. It didn’t work.
Not only were you not saved,
you got angry.
It’s not my job to save you.
I can offer you advice
but only if you ask.
I can tell you what worked for me,
but only if you approach me.
I was in the saving business
for the first half of my life.
It was a very unhappy profession
with many downsides
and resentments that built and built.
I’m not a hero and don’t want to be.
I hung up my cape and sword
a long time ago.
I sold the refuge I built
for outsider souls
and began building my own house.
It isn’t my job to save you.
That’s up to you.
I’m busy saving myself
and realizing each day
there’s nothing to save myself from.
I’m already saved and so are you.
Winter 2006 Astrology Column
We begin the New Year with the Sun trine Mars (1st) and Venus entering Capricorn. Dynamic energy
and goal setting are the sweeping energies as we step into 2006. On the 9th/10th there’s a Yod in the
heavens with Mercury and Uranus to Saturn, creating a window of insight and knowing what’s needed
for the next phase. The Full Moon of Capricorn/Cancer on the 14th bodes well for creativity,
especially where finances are concerned. Resources may not be as available through others as they
have been, so coming up with creative solutions is important. We are still involved with a Fixed Cross
involving Jupiter, Saturn, Mars and Neptune for another week or so, and choice-making and taking
responsibility are the focus. The 27th brings concern and the best approach is to look deeper and
listen to your own wisdom. The New Moon of Aquarius on the 29th emphasizes the need for clear
thinking. Where are we getting caught in the drama, especially others’ drama. Where can we step
back and seek our own counsel, maintaining our own boundaries. The power of ideas and
independent thought is vital to look at.
February begins with Venus going Direct on the 3rd (Retrograde since Christmas Eve) so finances
begin to show improvement. The Full Moon of Aquarius on the 12th represents a balance of
public/career life and personal/home life. Intuitive knowings are right on the money. As Chiron
opposes Saturn, healing experiences and the places they are needed can be sought more easily.
Mercury enters the shadow of its next Retrograde cycle on Feb. 16th. There’s subtlety here of near
misses and slight misunderstandings and delays. The 19th is fiery and full of sparring energy. The New
Moon of Pisces on the 27th brings new concepts of self, new jobs for some, and a strengthening of
the intuitive/eccentric side. Communication is high with needs to be addressed and see where
relationships need tending to. Mercury is square Pluto until the March 5th and we get to look more
deeply into matters of ultimate concern.
March begins with the unusual, freedom-loving Sun/Uranus aspect. On the 2nd, Mercury goes
Retrograde (until the 25th) and our insight depends and takes us into our own psyche. Boundaries are
also an issue and where we need to set them. March 11th brings erratic energy so it behooves one to
pay attention to their surroundings. The Lunar Full Moon Eclipse of Pisces/Virgo on the 14th squares
Pluto and brings a strong need to hone in on those places we look askance at and now have an
opportunity to deal with. Trust issues are up and beckon us closer to the fire of truth. Do we trust it
and how far. March 17th gives us Sun square Pluto and vying for power is the name of the game.
Own it, share it and use it effectively: the right use of power. The Vernal Equinox (on the 20th) as we
enter Aries and Spring suggests travel and a desire to shore up and take responsibility for personal
areas of our lives: living situations, personality traits that no longer measure up. Artistic self-expression
is expanding. Mercury goes Direct on March 25th and we have the following two weeks to clear up
the previous three weeks business: misunderstandings and disagreements, etc. The Solar New Moon
Eclipse in Aires on the 29th bodes well for risk-taking, yet stability and perseverance underlie those
energies as well. New financial pictures are emerging for consideration. Challenges loom over us next
week as Mars nears the exact opposition to Pluto. Set the tone, ride the wave and see what’s wanting
to come forward.

Your soul knows that you are never alone. So we ask that you incorporate that knowing into your
human consciousness. Move forward with courage and grace into these challenging times, which have
been anticipated and prepared for by the ancient ones on your planet for many eons. Inhabitants of
Earth are entering the period of the Great Awakening. The seemingly destructive events in your world
are simply removing the darkness and dross of many centuries of existence.
From the years 2001 through 2100, the archetypal overlay for the millennium will be put in place.
Therefore it is essential that all those living in this seminal time see the importance of the task they
agreed to do when they incarnated on the Earth plane. They were to honor the creative significance of
this period and consciously involve themselves in the great planetary event, which is unfolding. Each
and every person living on the Earth now has come to contribute in some particular manner to the
creation of a new age. There is a deep soul knowing as to how this personal offering will manifest.
This is why so many individuals possess both a sense of urgency and a feeling of personal mission.
Many times, the purpose has not been identified, but there is awareness of something important the
individual must do that will contribute to the greater good. It is also intuitively known that the life
mission should be identified and embarked on as soon as possible. (Excerpted from Higher
Dimensions: Our Next Home by Nancy Domelen)
“Creative work is not a selfish act or a bid for attention on the part of the actor. It’s a gift to the world
and every being in it. Don’t cheat us of your contribution. Give us what you’ve got.”
(Excerpt from The War of Art by Steven Pressfield)
Amazon
The Amazon rain forests are at their driest levels and it is said that it is a direct result from the severe
hurricane season in North America. With the air rising in creating the storms, it is descending over
South America, not able to form clouds. Many communities only available by boat, are being isolated.

Book Reviews
Writers: Birthing Creative Writing and Capturing Random Memories. Anthology, Vol. 1, by Kathleen
Spring. Colorado Press Award 2003. An excellent combination of short short stories and writing tips
and suggestions. The latter is to inspire and the short writing that follows gives a concrete example of
how it can look. Read either for the personal account written in short form by a variety of authors, or
for the inspiration for you own writing experience. Spring is a writing workshop facilitator who lives in
Colorado. Very enjoyable. ISBN-0-9655344-1-3.
The Higher Dimensions, Our Next Home: A Spiritual View of the 21st Century and Beyond by
Nancy Van Domelen. As the author transmits the information she receives from those in spirit, this
new material concerning multidimensional consciousness is readily readable. She guides us in personal
activities and meditations as stewards of the planet. She reminds us of the initiation of the great being
we call Gaia and how we can help her during her great travail in her own evolution. Toward the end,
she looks into the future of the Earth and humanity’s growth and potential. And excellent read, one
that reaches the intuitive, letting you feel the Truth of what is being presented here. (See excerpt in
newsletter.)
Thief of Words by John Jaffe. A woman’s past threatens to catch up with her as she begins dating an
editor who courts her with emails. His premise is that he is helping her rewrite her own history. I loved
the story, the use of emails to tell it, and the quote in the beginning: “A flimsy curtain separates memory
from imagination” by Elizabeth Loftus.
ISBN 0-446-69055-4.
Sacred Architecture by Caroline Humphrey and Piers Vitebsky. The authors take us on a pilgrimage
of sacred sites from a Pawnee Earth Lodge to Balinese Temples, from Labyrinths to outer protective
courtyards and walls, all reflecting the human/divine connection. I found the photos and text to be
beautiful and easily understandable. I love this book! ISBN 1-904292-10-0.
The War of Art: Break Through the Blocks and Win Your Inner Creative Battles by Steven
Pressfield. The author uses an in-your-face approach to inspire and galvanize every person who
dreams of creating something. He pulls no punches. His writing style is up-front and completely
supportive of the creative process inside each of us, longing to emerge. In all 163 pages he
demonstrates his life-affirming code. Great Book. ISBN 0-446-69143-7.
Receiving Love: Transform Your Relationship By Letting Yourself Be Loved by Harville Hendrix, Ph.
D. and Helen LaKelly Hunt, PH.D. This is an incredible source of knowledge applicable to life
(wisdom). Harville talks about the head knowledge that you are loved vs. the ability to really take it in
and have it change you. I waited for this book to be in print.

“You cannot even heal your disconnection by loving other people or by loving God. You may
compensate for your self-hatred by loving others, but you do not heal the breach within yourself. The
true corrective lies along a different path. You must start loving in your partner those traits, habits,
attitudes, and behaviors that give you the most trouble, in fact the very things he or she does that drive
you crazy….
What do your partner’s faults have to do with your self-rejection? The answer lies in the mechanism of
projection. What you don’t like or have rejected in yourself, you tend to project onto others, with the
most on-target projections aimed at your partner. In order to relate to the parts of yourself that are
missing, you project them onto your partner and relate to them in that form. You can experience the
disapproval and dislike you have for yourself by disapproving and disliking those same things in your
mate. This sounds far-fetched only because most projections are created in the unconscious. You don’
t know you’re doing it…
There is almost always something in your partner that attracts your projections, providing there is
something for your projections to stick to. After all, you chose your partner based on your imago, or
internalized image of a parent or primary caregiver in the first place. And that means that during the
power struggle, your partner really does demonstrate characteristics similar to the ones that injured
you when you were young. Those traits really exist to some extent in your partner, and when you
encounter them, they are supercharged.”
(Excerpted from Receiving Love by Harville Hendrix and Helen LaKelly Hunt).
Humankind is being led along a evolving course,
Through this migration of intelligences,
And though we seem to be sleeping,
There is an inner wakefulness
That directs the dream,
And that eventually startle us back
To the truth of who we are. Rumi
It Isn’t My Job To Save You
It isn’t my job to save you.
I’ve tried that. It didn’t work.
Not only were you not saved,
you got angry.
It’s not my job to save you.
I can offer you advice
but only if you ask.
I can tell you what worked for me,
but only if you approach me.
I was in the saving business
for the first half of my life.
It was a very unhappy profession
with many downsides
and resentments that built and built.
I’m not a hero and don’t want to be.
I hung up my cape and sword
a long time ago.
I sold the refuge I built
for outsider souls
and began building my own house.
It isn’t my job to save you.
That’s up to you.
I’m busy saving myself
and realizing each day
there’s nothing to save myself from.
I’m already saved and so are you.
